The NDEPI National Conference convenes Nigeria's foremost voices in healthcare, policy, research, and community health — confronting the growing diabetes epidemic with evidence-based strategies and collaborative action.

Leadership Behind NDEPI 2027

Guided by distinguished academics and healthcare leaders from across Nigeria.

Prof. Ibrahim D Gezawa

Guest Speaker · Consultant Endocrinologist

MD, MD(Nig), FMCP, Cert. BGM, FACE

Professor of Medicine at Bayero University, Kano, and Consultant Endocrinologist at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he heads the Endocrine unit and the newly established Geriatric Center. With expertise spanning diabetes, obesity, cardiometabolic disease, diabetic complications and geriatric endocrinology, he combines clinical excellence with impactful research and medical education. He has authored or co-authored 70 peer-reviewed publications and serves as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Nigerian Endocrine Practice and Kano State Coordinator of the Diabetes Association of Nigeria. A passionate advocate for evidence-based, patient-centred care, he received the 2025 Kano State Service Excellence Award for Best Performing Clinician in Diabetes.

Guest Speaker · Consultant Endocrinologist

Professor of Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL) and Consultant Endocrinologist at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where he heads the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism unit. He received his MBBS from the University of Ibadan in 1987, trained at LUTH, and rose to full professor at CMUL in 2019. A leading researcher on diabetes in Africans through the AADM study group and the DiabCare Nigeria project, he has authored 5 books and 120 peer-reviewed publications with over 300 conference abstracts, and has supervised more than 30 fellows. He is Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences, CMUL, a former President of the Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria, past Chairman of the Nigeria Chapter of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and an Examiner for the West African College of Physicians.

Insulin for Life (IFL), Florida, has been a valued and compassionate partner in our efforts to support indigent Nigerians living with diabetes since 2014. The Insulin for Life USA in Gainesville, Florida, was founded by Dr. Mark A. Atkinson and Carol Atkinson in 2012.

Through its generous support, IFL has regularly provided insulin and other essential diabetes medical supplies, often two to three times each year to Hammer Home the Glucose, helping vulnerable people who might otherwise be unable to access the treatment and supplies they urgently need. Hammer Home the Glucose is a diabetes focused Nigerian organization working to improve the lives of people living with diabetes, particularly those who are economically disadvantaged.
